“you know nothing Jon Snow!”

Apart from what a good motorcycle is… Looking countrified for a GQ cover here’s actor Kit Harington with a black Bonnie ready to take on The Great North Road.

Ready to take on the White Walkers..

Red Leather

Hot day today. Low nineties. Out and about and saw this dude. He’s decided to keep cool on his mighty ruby slipper red hog: breeze across his shoulders sure must feel good. Well if ye dinnae want te wear a leather jacket in the midday sun…. Just grow yer own! Those wee moc loafers suit his attire too…

¡Red Alert!

Triumph speed blooded Thruxton is crying out for a full fairing. But it has to be done very carefully unless it will look like a hashed bin bolted on. This example is var nigh perfect. For sale locally for $11,000 at Motoworks…

Wheels Real

Putting plans into action for the next Bonnie upgrade. The standard steel rims add a lot of unsparing weight to the bike and as was done in ‘the day’ I’m going to get hold of some hubs and lace ’em to alloy rims then shod the new lighter wheel with modern rubber.

Oiler

I’ve relocated the screw on oil filter to a more accessible position just above the gearbox. Piping runs smoothly and keeping the precious lubricant clean is an easier task.

Seventy ‘n’ Scootering

Everyone’s favorite Dame Helen Mirren turns 70 today. The closest image I can find of her on two-wheels is at this premier of the film Brighton Rock in 2011. The red carpet ain’t looked so good!

Dog Days of Summer

Hot, hot day here in the Midwest. A short ride to try a blow a waft of cool air across the back. The odd spot along the lagoons and one or two sections where Lake Michigan touches the leafy ravines offered respite.

wheel aloft

Mai Lin pulls a mean wheelie on a Triumph Speed Triple. White leathers and white high heels. Hair flying and one wheel spinning. The red bike closes the deal!

Smootch Stoppie

I’m not sure of the early 70’s oil in frame Bonneville with its conical front brake could pull off a stoppie like this but it’s worth dreaming about!

This is how it’s done properly!

Four Thou

Checking the valve rocker clearances: plugs out, first gear and turn engine over with kicker until left or right exhaust valve is just starting to close again then check clearance under the other tappet. Slip appropriate feeler in (or just rattle rocker to feel a very slight ‘tick-tack’). Adjust as necessary then recheck. Repeat for other side. Then repeat for intake valve tappets at two thou gap. Job done!

Magnificent Desolation

Buzz Aldrin on the lunar surface forty six years ago today. Reflected in his visor is Neil Armstrong and the lunar module lander. I love this image; it shows what we are capable of as a people and what an individual can achieve.

Doff

A Motoblot image just cropped up. Taken as my comrade on wheels Dean and I arrive to the recent street-fest event in Chicago. His spit clean ’68 looking sparking next to my rough 72’etc Orange Bonnie. I’m removing my yellow hornéd Davida lid as we line up in the British section.

I’m off oot to see a bloke aboot a Dog hinny!

True Geordie stuff here!

Beer cap bike: a chopper is created using bottle tops of one of my favorite drinks.

A bottle of dog is the locals name for their imbibe of choice. Newcastle Brown Ale (Broon). A nutty refreshing beer that reminds expats of the friendly folk of the Tyne. “Howay the Lads!”

Jack of All Trades

Triumph do patriotic colors pretty well: red, white & blue of the Union Flag. Saints Georgae, Andrew and Patrick’s pennants. Be it their Street Triple, Daytona, or the bigger Sprints. They ALL look the business and grin inducing.
