The Goldfinch

The Goldfinch – wandering the open market of Aspen earlier today we spied this delightful little Moto Guzzi Cardellino. A 73cc two-stroke single cylinder that saw use in the late fifties and early sixties. The ski resort seems like a suitable place for this delicate device to be settled. It felt like we were on the shore of Lake Como under an alpine Lombardy scene.

Mountain High

High Desert Heroine – we drove across the San Juan Valley today, taking in the magnificent sight of the Great Sand Dunes, and had our itinerary rerouted due to wildfires. Took the Continental Divide Independence Pass to Aspen. I’m definitely coming back to that road on two-wheels…

Here’s Friday’s fiery locked rider taking a long sweeping corner under, what now to me looks like, golden Colorado sunshine.

For Brass Monkey weather

On The Rocks – whilst driving though a seasonably hot Colorado thought is given to the other end of the annum. Sunshine yellow ’73 TR5T ice racer for sale in Elkhorn WI. Frozen lake for a Track is all you need… that and sharp tire spikes.. and some solid nerves.

Rocky Mountain High

Million $ Highway – great day taking a BMW GS800 over one of the worlds great roads. 76 miles of curves, steep drops, rocky bluffs, wooded slopes, glistening rivers, craggy mountains, blue skies, and sublime scenery. Colorado at its best! And I did the ride TWICE! That smile is the genuine thing!

It’ll buff out!

Rocket Three B&W – seem better days and in need of TLC; this 1970 BSA Triple is languishing at Ed Zender’s. A decent project for some unsuspecting soul willing to trade sanity for the chance to own a fairly rare motorcycle.

OHV

DeLuxe – Front Fender of 1953 Harley Davidson Panhead Police. The front badge denotes a half century of the Milwaukee brand: founded in 1903

Native Peoples

Go West – we’re off on vacation for several days; so, depending on cell data coverage the blog post may be a little intermittent. Today’s image is the oversized Indian head tank badge for the Enfield detailed motorcycle.

quelle? moi inquiète?

Belle femme numéro cinq a Vendredi – End of the week. Finally! And we’re off on holiday! Finally too! Here’s a new Bonnie T100 with shredded jeans clad lassie looking a tad serious. Let’s get this show on the road!

L’orange

Deux Chevaux – like some giant upturned orange wheelbarrow this Citröen 2CV was parked up near Morries Place last weekend. Developed in France after the 2nd World War as an economical family transport it was spare in detail but complete in purpose. Over 9 million of these cars and their variants were manufactured over 42 years. It’s up there in motoring history with the Ford Model T, VW’s Beetle, Fiat’s 500, and BMC’s Mini.

Kitty

Panthera tigris – what could be considered the do-it-all Daley Thompson of the motorcycle world. An 800cc triple with drive-by-wire throttle offering improved fuel economy; traction control for sure road grip; cruise control, auto-cancel indicators, an advanced trip computer; and multiple driving modes such as on/off-road and rain. Hardware upgrades such as engine-protection bars, an aluminum sump guard, a center stand improve usability.

Hear it ROAR!

One, Two, Three, Four

Four Square- more offerings from the Ringwood motorcycle emporium. Delicious BSA Goldstar in immaculate condition, one lung and splendid mirrored chrome tank emblazoned with the gold star representing Wal Handley’s ton lap at Brooklands in ’37. Green lane ready Triumph Trophy Trail, half liter of long legged fun. Norton & Beeza goodies: one a TT special willing for speed, the other a doughty sloper ready for a lazy countryside jaunt. Finally a hefty Laverda 3C Triple, 1000cc of Italian grunt; just need a quiet afternoon along Lago Maggiore…

Baby Blue

Daytona – little brother of the Bonneville. Though only 500cc’s against the 650 T120 it still managed to maintain an enviable racing career. This original example is owned by Ed Zender; he’d just pulled it from storage the day before. I’m including the old shop sign from the earlier location up on Route 173 near Richmond IL.

Orange is not the only fruit

Hurricane – in an attempt to win over a flagging US customer Triumph and BSA employed industrial designer Craig Vetter to create bodywork for the new and fast triple that would appeal to the American market. Though a BSA Rocket Three at heart, by the time the X75 was released it was emblazoned with a Triumph badge. The deep orange with yellow swoosh are inspired with an hourglass shape that provides a sexy line to this muscle of a motorbike. Triple stacked silencers on the timing size are keenly futuristic. This example was built by Ed Zender for a customer. He says it runs well with a powerful and tight power unit. In the sun it’s a sublime example of a special British motorcycle.

Shop Display

Eye Candy – a trip up to Morries Place in Ringwood let’s me enjoy a grand collection of old motorcycles. Ed Zender is always a good craic and there’s sure to be something I haven’t seen before. I’ll be posting more bikes through this week.
