Fine Run

Lake Loop

A great day up to Lake Geneva through McHenry County on roads bordered by spring blooming trees and emerging leaves. We stopped in at Morries Place where we spied another workshop filled with project bikes. An interesting cove called Jim was working on a 1929 Henderson X. A splendid Triton parked outside near to where Ed Zender was working on a BSA.

Any color…

… as long as it’s black

– so said Henry Ford. We visited the Model T museum in Richmond Indiana today. A nice display of 30 examples of the original multi purpose vehicle. It was a runabout, speedster, truck, van, snowmobile, ambulance, fire truck, tow truck, touring car. These particular models, ranging from early 1907 models to the latter 20’s versions, were in marvelous condition.

Essex

“Call me Ishmael”

On this day 200 years ago the whaling ship Essex was attacked and sunk by a sperm whale in the middle of the South Pacific. This maritime story gave Herman Melville the idea for his classic novel Moby Dick. This 1928 Brought Superior SS100, also named Moby Dick recently sold for over £500,000. The name was given after Motor Cycling magazine tested it in 1931 and declared it “the fastest privately-owned machine in the world”.
