Two Wheels Good!

Ever since I was a kid I played with motorcycles; now I ride them, fix them, paint them, restore them, look at them, read about them, watch them; well, just plain old enjoy them.

There is something elegant in the way motorcycles stay upright when in motion; a magical balance that gives the rider such a thrill when all your senses are tuned into the road ahead, swooping the bike from corner to corner and speeding along like some bird in flight. Indeed it is as close to flying as we’ll come without wings!

“It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters in the end.”

Ursula K. LeGuin

  1. Now then,
Congratulations on the new/improved/updated/enlarged/expanded/and so much more.. lovely.
I do TRUST it is still you, yourself.. my sometimes associate from BikeEXIF.. defender, when I seemed to get in the shit with such as Lanny Shay and other headbangers..
I left BikeEXIF which had become a home for far too many chav’s and the filth they brought with them.. cast outs from Ytube, no doubt. Ah well. I did write to you via Facebook. No reply..
I do hope you are well and send all best wishes for this, and the New Year.. [bit late perhaps, but I’ve just found you again..]
To finish, I went out to the lovely village, Corbridge, on Sunday last [ 22/01/ 2012] for Lunch at the Black Bull. I’m sure you’d have loved it.. roast beef AND pork, Ypuds, separate veg, roastie’s, mash and extra gravy with floaty bits..F’YUMMY..mega. Lovely friends and great craic. Next time [every 2/3 months] I’ll let you know and you can come too. That’d be grand.
Always remember..”Friends are the family we make for ourselves” and it’s good to talk.
    Very best regards

    • Bill!
Great to hear from you and news of the best corners of the ‘Old Country’. That Pub Dinner sounds too good! People here wouldn’t know a Yorkshire Puddin’ if it slapped them around the chops! I remmeber tru plate sized puds in the pubs of SHeffield during my student days! The Bonnie if off the road for winter; it gets real chilly here! And traffic behaves differently. But it gives me achance to work on the oh-so-wonderful electrics. Installing a new Wassel loom to take care of some lost volts. I think a wee Covenry gremlin has been sitting in this bike for a few decades and decided to cause havoc to the ride! I’m also redoing the tins. Black mudguards and a new tank (I acquired a big UK sized one) looks a lot better. Wait on my blog for photos!

I too had fun with the BikeExif when it lasted. It’s nice to see a model now and then, but when it comes down to it bikes are individual things. Frankly I enjoy them all to some degree! I’ve ben enjoying watching a programme about the industrial revolution and what part Britain played in it – makes yer proud! Presented by none other than the great Guy Martin. What a character! He don’t half ride the nuts off a bike too! Hope this year is his TT year!

Keep well pal! And keep in touch!

  3. David dear,
Thanks for that.. truth to tell, it feels not nice to lose a new ‘pal’ when you’ve gotten along so well. And leaving BIKE E was essential for me. I’ve stayed in touch with Chris.. BIKE E’s maitre d’.. and we text now and then, which is grand. Which leads me to this.. I can see with your blog and stuff you are v.busy.. so, I’ll just drop a note now and then.. I don’t want to and have no wish to be.. a pest.
I miss BE but.. the chav crowd HAD arrived.. it was so plain to see.. what had started with nice and decent guys descended in to.. well let’s just say unpleasant goings-on. Do you ever look at Ytube.. I do lots.. it’s just full of my/our stuff.. vintage bikes/cars/planes, great GREAT music and so on.. then the comments. I can’t cope.. c’mon man, I was Sunday school brought up and I can handle myself.. but these buggers are deranged.. mental.!!
And along with knowing about you,[ I’ve signed up for your blog..] I miss Mule.. a grand lad. Hell, I wish I could afford one of his bikes here, but $30k for starters would buy 2 best Ducati’s or a BMW and a Ducati etc.. so..?
Never mind I’ll go for now.
All best wishes and speak soon[ish]
    Regards
    Bill

  4. Hi Geordie,

    Greeting from Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.

I could imagine the time taken to produce such an excellent write up about the great classic.
Great effort from a great man.
I write in to enquire about a photo in my possession on an old Royal Enfield.
I was in London for a short hop in 2009 and on shopping,I was given a paper bag carrier of a Motor cross racing,
It is difficult to down load the pic.via your word press. Thus you could forward me your email address and i gladly would sent you a copy of the pic.

I would like to know,if you has the knowledge of the race, where and when and who is the ride of that great race.
The paper bag is jes awesome and I decided to frame it up for my reading room at home here in KL.

From the pic,I could have a guess is some where between early mid 40 or early 50’s.
The pic.could also be view at my face book at :

Thank you sir for the great write up,being a bike enthusiast myself do look forward of your great write up.

    Cheers.Good Day sir.

    WJalius.
